With dogs staying in shelters for longer periods of time it is increasingly more important to provide them with a better quality of life than sleeping on a cold, hard concrete floor.

Our Story...
In 1938 a handful of concerned citizens recognized the need for a humane organization dedicated to the protection and care of stray, abandoned, and abused animals. They founded the Animal Rescue League of Southern Rhode Island. For many years the shelter was located in a barn, with animals cared for by volunteers. In 1969 the League moved to our current location on Curtis Corner Road in Peace Dale. Here, our small staff care for as many as 60 cats and 27 dogs, plus other small animals, at any given time.
Our Mission ...
- To find permanent and suitable homes for animals in need
- To provide interim humane care for those animals
- To promote the humane treatment of all animals
The League's extended mission includes organizing educational classes for children and adults, providing the community with volunteer opportunities and interaction with pets, and addressing animal-related problems in the community.
"Men have forgotten this truth" said the fox.
"But you must not forget it. You become
responsible forever for what you have tamed."
