Choosing a Pet / Pet Needs
Choosing a pet is a very important decision. People should never get a pet without considering three things: TIME, SPACE, and MONEY.
Consider how much time you and your family have to spend with your pet each day. All pets require a different amount of care and companionship. For example, a fish requires less time than a dog. When estimating the amount of time your new pet will need, take into account the following tasks: feeding your pet, putting out fresh water, cleaning food/water bowls, brushing, bathing, changing bedding, and changing the litter box. Once you have determined the amount of time these tasks will take each day/week, honestly decide whether the pet you are considering is right for you.
-
Do you have the right environment where you live to properly care for a pet?
-
How much space does this pet need? Depending on the animal, measure the tank (length, width, height), or yard (length and width). Be sure that the space you can provide is enough to meet the animal’s needs.
-
Describe this pet’s activities. Does it need to run a lot? climb? scratch?
-
How much exercise does this pet need? Do you need to participate, with your pet for him/her to get the exercise he/she needs?
-
How big will this animal get?
-
When does this pet like to play (daytime or nighttime)?
