NOVEMBER 2008 PET WALK - CASEY FARM, SAUNDERSTOWN, RI
This month's Pet Walk takes us to Casey Farm in North Kingstown.
![]()
This mid 18th-century homestead overlooking Narragansett Bay was the center of a plantation that produced food for local and foreign markets. Today, resident farm managers raise organically grown vegetables, herbs, and flowers for subscribing households in a Community Supported Agriculture program. In addition to food production, the 300-acre farm also includes a wild cranberry bog, large farmyard, historic cemetery, and extensive walking trails through the surrounding woods as well as leading down to the nearby Narragansett Bay.
After walking the grounds a bit, we will offer two walking choices. First is a trip down to Narragansett Bay along a woodland path, about ½ mile each way. Second is a longer walk to the shores of the Narrow River, about 1 mile each way. Each walk is over graded dirt roads and woodland paths.
Casey Farm is located on Boston Neck Road (Route 1A) about 7-1/2 miles north of Narragansett Pier, and about 1 mile south of Route 138 East (leading to the Jamestown Bridge.)
The cost of the walk is $10 per person. Children accompanied by an adult and pets are free. You do not need to pre-register; however, you are encouraged to arrive on time so that you can register and get the required pet walker sticker. Pet owners must bring water for themselves and their pets. All pets must be on a leash or otherwise secured. Owners are responsible for picking up after their pets and a copy of the pet's current rabies certificate is required to participate. Hot and cold refreshments will be served at the end of the walk.
The walk will start at 10:00 AM. For information call 401-792-2233.
